Chef Uwe Rudnick makes a favorite dish from his hometown of Hamburg, German Hamburgers (Frikadellen) using Knorr or Maggi Hackbraten Fix available at http://www.GermanDeli.com '>http://www.GermanDeli.com Recipe:Each package makes about 4 large Frikadellen (German hamburgers). For each package use 1 pound of ground meat. You may use ground beef, pork, chicken, turkey or even a combination of two or more different meats. Add the contents of a packet of Fix to 1/2 cup water. Stir until combined and add to the ground meat. Using your hands work the mixture into the meat. Form 4 patties. Heat a skillet and add about 1/4 inch oil (Sunflower or similar).Add the patties to the hot oil and brown on both sides. Make certain the meat is cooked thoroughly. You may brown the patties and finish them off in the oven if you'd like. Optional preparation:Use the mixture to make a great German-style meatloaf. Just form into a loaf in an oven-safe dish.Bake in a 350°F oven for about 45 minutes or until cooked through. (A meat thermometer should read 160°F at the center of the meatloaf.)Serve with German fries, buttered noodles, or buttered Spätzle. Add a fresh salad. - 1/2 pork and 1/2 beef is even better. And we add breadcrumbs or stale bread softened in milk so the Frikadellen are nice and loose. However, we sell the Maggi and Knorr FIX and they are wonderful products that can make cooking a bit easier.

Sure did, ground beef from Commissary here in Germany..

- Exactly, all the good flavors are in the packet....including the breading that keeps the burgers a little more delicate in texture. My family loves the traditional Frikadellen, but they also like when I gently saute diced onions in a little butter and add the softened onions to the meat mixture...before I make them into patties. Some freshly chopped parsley is also great. Works for the meatloaf, too. Don't burn the onions, though. Cook until translucent.

- did you ever buy the meat to make yourself some yummy Frikadellen? My favorite meats are ground beef or a combo of beef and pork. Personally I prefer the 100% beef....but it is fun to experiment.

I agree fresh ingredients give better flavour but i've used (when pressed for time) one of those packages after i've read what it contains: just dried vegetables stuff and salt, nothing else.

I picked up some packages of Knorr like you used here a while ago, was surprised to find a video using them.... tempted to buy some ground meat to cook tonight.

- Chef Uwe was showing that some of the products used by home cooks in Germany are now available here in the USA. Many time home cooks don't make things like Frikadellen because they have to do some much prep. So instead they stop at a Fast Food place instead. These German "helpers" can make it easy to whip up a classic German meal in a fraction of the time. Many German households use this product...why should Americans be denied the same option? From scratch is fine too, though.

- We agree. Fresh onions and fresh parsley will reinforce the taste and the texture of the food.
