I think by rice wine he means sake. I get mine in the liquor store. The sweetened rice wine is called mirin. I suggest only buying mirin in an asian grocery store. The mirin found at big chain grocery stores is fake and tastes bad. :( KingSlimjeezy (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)

People... the rice wine he is talking about is NOT sake. It's chinese and there are many, many varieties. You might see it labelled "cooking wine" or "cooking liquor". The proper substitution if you can't find it, and it will be in every town in the world, so keep looking, would be dry sherry, not sake.
