After a long day outdoors there's nothing like a good hot meal to replenish and refuel the body, mind, and spirit. And one of the best ways to prepare a great meal while camping is over the fire using a dutch oven. Of course it's laughable to imagine us hikers and backpackers hauling a cast iron monstrosity over the many miles of trail we generally travel. I wanted to share with you in this video my method for dutch oven cooking which utilizes the lightweight cook pots that most of us already carry as part of our backpacking gear. You can prepare virtually any meal that you would cook using a standard dutch oven and the list of recipes range from simple desserts to substantial meals. In this video I use a simple muffin recipe as an example, but using these same techniques I've baked everything from cornbread with chili to pepperoni pizza (mmmm). Hope you pick something up here that is useful, and I'd love to hear some of the things that you do on your own trips. As always, thanks for watching!

I loved watching this. Felt like I was right there too! I love dutch ovens. You can make literally anything in them, using just wood and coals for fuel. Totally civilized!! Thanks for a great vid.

Great video...Most of the time I try to stay away from that kind of junk but I figure while ur hiking it makes a nice treat and you'll burn it off anyway. lol Any concerns about cooking in aluminum. I started replacing my aluminum stuff with titanium after reading all the health warnings about aluminum cookware..

Hehe... yeah this is an oldie! I love this trick for cooking up some good grub. Plus, the guy with the goodies is always the most popular on the trail, lol. Glad you liked it Bro!

Thanks man! I'm glad you liked it... it's been a VERY useful little trick for me! Sorry about the audio, I use a cheaper camcorder for my videos and it doesn't pick up sound very well from any kind of distance.
